Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for Adults

This course is for adults working or living with adolescents and is module based and delivered over 14 hours. Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective It covers the following key areas:

The developing mental health problems in adolescents:

  1. Depression
  2. Anxiety disorder
  3. Psychosis
  4. Substance use disorders
  5. Eating Disorders

Mental health crisis situations:

  1. Suicidal behaviour/thoughts
  2. Self-harm
  3. Panic attack/Acute stress reaction
  4. Acute psychotic behaviour

Training can also be tailored to suit the specific needs of an employer or organisation in respect to content and time / budget constraints.

Education programs for young employees

Over the years we have worked with a number of employers to educate their apprentices and support their supervisors in dealing with their young staff.  The apprentice program is workshop based and designed to equip young apprentices with the necessary skills that will assist their transition into the workplace.

Modules include:

  1. Communication
  2. Peer relationship building
  3. Adjusting to the adult workforce
  4. Drug and alcohol issues
  5. Time and resource management
  6. Positive well-being
  7. Assertive communication and conflict management
  8. Self esteem
  9. Help seeking behaviours
