The Youth Focus team were out and about last week, as we hosted, attended and participated in many community events and activations for Mental Health Week 2024 (5 – 12 October). The theme was Empowering communities, thriving workforces: a journey towards investing in our mental health, and the focus was all about shining a light on the stories and experiences of life and recovery beyond mental ill-health, diagnoses and labels.
From attending the official opening event in Geraldton and the launch of the WA Youth Action Plan, to activations at Perth Children’s Hospital, Beats and Eats in Northam, the Meeka Walk for Suicide Awareness, and headspace day’s across WA and the Mad Hatter Tea Party in Albany – the team were busy connecting with the community and starting important conversations about mental well-being.
We were so proud to be part of the Mental Health Week closing lunch panel, with our very own Individual Placement and Support Coordinator Katie Llewell joining the expert panel to share her insights about how securing meaningful employment or study opportunities can be transformational in navigating mental health challenges.
Each year, Mental Health Week provides a perfect platform to come together with our community and partners to raise important awareness for mental health, but we understand the importance of keeping the conversations going. At Youth Focus, we work year round to listen and empower young people so they can advocate for the support they need, so it’s there when and where they need it.
