As lead agency for headspace Geraldton, Youth Focus has been invested in the Geraldton community for over 10 years, and we are excited about some upcoming expansions on our services and spaces that are coming soon.

Renovations are officially underway to create Geraldton’s new Youth Mental Health Hub – a welcoming, purpose built space designed to support young people with mental health and wellbeing services, all under one roof.

The downstairs level of the hub will remain home to headspace Geraldton, while the upstairs – led by Youth Focus – will house multiple youth services, meaning young people can access support in one safe, inclusive space. The Geraldton Youth Mental Health Hub will bring together different programs and service providers, offering support to young people no matter what their current level of need is, and through their entire mental health journey.

To achieve this goal, Youth Focus is excited to announce the delivery of a new service. the Youth Enhanced Service (YES) Program, funded through the WA Primary Health Alliance. This service will provide intensive clinical support for young people aged between 12-25 years, offering diagnosis of mental health conditions, prescriptions, psychological support and other care as needed.
“When a young person reaches out for help, it’s so important that the right help is available,” said Angela Wright, Chief Operating Officer, Youth Focus.

“The YES Program will provide the right level of support – at no cost – to young people living in the Mid West who have moderate to high mental health needs. Until now, these services just haven’t been available in the region.”

The Geraldton Mental Health Hub is an exciting and critical step towards improving youth mental health in the region. With headspace Geraldton providing support for emerging early mental health challenges, the YES Program for more targeted wrap around support, and CAMHS services for young people with acute needs, young people in the region will have more access to the right services when and where they need it.

The Geraldton Youth Mental Health Hub is proudly supported by a generous Lotterywest grant, and we are so grateful for their commitment to improving youth mental health in the region.
We are excited to be working with Boodjera Group, who are bringing to life the vision of a thriving hub with care and expertise.

A key part of the upcoming redevelopment will be the Youth Mental Health Therapy Garden. A community-driven project designed to create a larger, more inclusive, and culturally safe outdoor space for young people in Geraldton. The expanded garden will feature shaded seating, accessible pathways, native plants, a yarning circle, a bush therapy fire pit, and spaces for group activities, reflection, and connection.

Designed in consultation with young people, Elders, and local partners, the garden will provide an alternative to traditional indoor counselling, offering a safe, welcoming environment for all. The project is proudly supported through funding from the Midwest Development Commission, Mid West Ports Authority, and Illuka Lends a Hand, with additional in-kind contributions and discounted services from local businesses and tradespeople. Together, these contributions are helping us bring this important space to life for the wellbeing of our community’s youth.

Youth Focus and headspace Geraldton is so excited about these opportunities to improve youth mental health in the region. While the space is currently under renovation stage, headspace Geraldton is operating out of 110 Marine Terrace.
