Help young people discover their immeasurable strength

As we approach the holiday season, we wanted to share with you something that our staff have the privilege of witnessing every day – and that is the incredible strength and potential that young people embody.

Many of them don’t realise it’s there when they first come to us. It gets hidden under the angst of life in an often-scary and sometimes overwhelming world. But with the right support – a space to feel heard, understood and supported – it comes shining through, starting with three words: “I need help”

‘I need help’ is a statement that has the power to change a young person’s life, no matter what their story. It can begin a process of discovery and healing which allows the young person to access that inner strength they thought was hiding and regain a sense of hope for a bright future – one where they can achieve their dreams and be the amazing people they are. But we have to respond to their call.

In the current overstretched system, many young Western Australians face long wait lists and prohibitive costs even when they’ve been brave enough to reach out for help. With suicide remaining the leading cause of death for young people this is simply unacceptable.

We know the sooner young people access support the more likely they are to have better outcomes, now and into the future. We can support young people to harness their strength and potential, with your help. That’s why we’re asking you to make a donation today.

We’d like to share with a message we received from one of the young people we see regularly – please scroll down to read it. She came to us feeling that she’d lost a bit of herself. The support of our youth counsellor, Veronica (pictured above) meant that she was able to discover the confidence she needed to be ‘the best version of her’.

Together, we can help more young people be the best versions of themselves. Please do give generously, so that young people can receive the help they need.
