The State Government recently launched Koorlangka Bidi, the WA Youth Action Plan 2024-2027, and we were delighted to be part of the official celebrations at Perth City Farm.
More than 2,200 young people from Fitzroy Crossing to Albany shared what was important to them as part of the extensive consultation process, and we also contributed a joint submission with the Youth Affairs Council of WA on the mental health needs of young people in WA.
Mental health and wellbeing was one of the key areas of interest for young people, together with cost of living pressures, climate change and environment, connection to others, getting and holding on to a job, and transitioning to adulthood.
The Youth Action Plan has six focus areas, which have been directly informed by the voices and experiences of young people, and reflect their aspirations and needs:
-
Amplifying young voices
-
Climate action
-
Achieving goals
-
Cost of living
-
Supporting wellbeing
-
Embracing diversity and inclusion
We applaud the State Government and the Department of Communities on its vision to ensure all young people feel valued and included, supported to achieve their goals, and empowered to shape the world they live in, and lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, and we look forward to supporting the implementation of the Youth Action Plan over the coming three years.
