It was fantastic to attend the 7NEWS Young Achievers Awards last Friday, celebrating the diverse and inspiring range of accomplishments young people have achieved across WA.
Congratulations to our Youth Reference Group members Emily and Rachael from Burswood who were finalists in their categories, and Kieran from Midland who was nominated.

Masonic Care WA/Freemasons WA Community Service and Volunteering Award
Emily was announced as a finalist for this award, recognising her commitment to creating more inclusive systems for young people with disability and lived experience of mental health challenges. Emily led the development of the impactful Disabled. Deal With it. Campaign with the Youth Disability Advocacy Network, reshaping community attitudes towards disability through powerful, authentic representation – reaching more than 1.8 million people across multiple platforms (including in our lift and reception!)
Garlett Group Create Change Award
Rachael was announced as a finalist for this award, recognising her expertise as an advocate across mental health, disability, LGBTQIA+ and youth spaces. All of Rachael’s work is grounded in a belief that collaboration produces better outcomes than competition, and a vision of a world where no person is made to feel broken.
Keiran was nominated for both the Garlett Group Create Change Award and Awards Australia Tertiary Education Achievement Award, recognising their incredible work in advocacy, community leadership and youth empowerment. As an Our Place Youth Committee member, Kieran is proof that young people are not just the future, they’re creating change right now.
A huge congratulations to all the finalists and winners. We are proud to work alongside so many inspiring young people and loved having the opportunity to celebrate and recognise some of the many young achievers who are making real change in their communities.
