Young people and families in Midland and the surrounding communities will have more ways to access mental health support close to home, with the announcement of expanded headspace services designed to offer earlier, more integrated care.
As one of Youth Focus’s largest centres in our network of locations across WA, we are delighted that headspace Midland has been selected to be among the first centres nationally to transition to the headspace Plus model of care.
Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Emma McBride MP joined us to announce this significant investment in youth mental health. It was a great opportunity to showcase the incredible work of our team at headspace Midland, and discuss how the headspace Plus model of care will help meet growing demand across the region.
As lead agency for headspace Midland, we welcome the opportunity to expand the mental health supports available in the community, and to increase accessibility for young people aged 12 – 25. Youth Focus has nine locations across WA, and our approach focuses on bringing services together and meeting young people where they are, so they can navigate the challenges they’re facing, with no wrong door.

“Many young people are experiencing intersecting and evolving challenges that affect their mental health and wellbeing. The headspace Plus model of care has been designed to better respond to those needs through earlier, more responsive and more integrated care, while maintaining the trusted and accessible support that headspace is known for.”
This model of care builds on the strengths of the existing headspace model, and will enable greater capacity to grow the workforce, deepen community partnerships through outreach and health promotion, and strengthen family engagement in young people’s care.
This is especially important in Midland and the surrounding areas. As a large, growing community, the catchment area for headspace Midland is geographically very large, encompassing five local government areas across the eastern and northeastern region of Perth, including Bassendean, Swan, Kalamunda, Mundaring and Bayswater.
In 2025/26, headspace Midland saw an increase in the number of young people reaching out for help, with the team supporting over 800 young people and their families. Increasingly, many of these young people require more intensive, coordinated services for challenges such as eating disorders, family and domestic violence, or severe and enduring mental illnesses.
