Our headspace Northam Youth Reference Group (YRG) has shown the incredible impact that young people can have when they come together. In response to an issue that was being frequently raised during YRG meetings – young people in the Northam community faced with sleeping rough, couch surfing, and experiencing homelessness – the YRG has created support packs to ensure that young people have access to everyday essentials.
Each support pack is filled with clothing, food items, toiletries, and even hand-knitted socks to keep young people warm on these cold nights. To make them even more meaningful, each pack includes handwritten notes of support and encouragement, reminding young people that they are not alone and support is always available.
These packs are now available for our Youth Counsellors at headspace Northam to offer to young people who are facing challenges, ensuring that no young person is left without access to the necessities.
We could not be prouder of our incredible young people in the headspace Northam YRG. Their passion, leadership, and care for other young people in their community inspires all of us across the organisation. Our Youth Reference Groups are an incredible example of the impact young people can make in supporting one another when given the opportunity, with each filled with inspiring and dedicated young people.
