A celebration of community, connection and inclusion
Throughout November, our Metro locations came together to celebrate Pride Month with the community – joining in on the joy and connection of the events celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
Midland kicked off the month with their annual Pride Prom, themed A Night Among the Stars. The event brought together young people, local service providers and staff from headspace and Youth Focus for a night filled with live performances, dancing, art activities, games and prizes. The atmosphere was warm, energetic and uplifting – creating a space where people of all ages could celebrate safely and proudly.
Congratulations to the Our Place Committee, the headspace Midland Youth Reference Group, and the headspace Midland team for organising the event. Their teamwork and passion created a truly remarkable night to start off pride month.

Our Burswood team continued the Pride celebrations at the PrideFest Fairday, connecting with young people, families and community members. Those who visited our stall were invited to share their thoughts on “What Pride Means to You”.
One of our volunteers reflected that a memorable moment was when a child chose to share their response through drawing, rather than writing. When asked whether the child preferred drawing, their parent smiled and replied, “Sometimes words aren’t necessary – drawing can be just as powerful”. An important reminder of the many ways people express themselves and reflection on how we can create space for all forms of communication and celebration.

It was great to see the number of families who attended the festival together, highlighting the strong sense of community and belonging that Pride fosters.
As Metro’s Pride Month comes to a close, we continue to celebrate the values, diversity and vibrancy that the LGBTQIA+ community brings to our communities and the broader community.
