This August, a group of mining executives will embark on a challenging five-day survival trek through the Kimberley to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health.

A group of eight passionate industry leaders, all dedicated to improving youth mental health, will be dropped into the Kimberley with a guide, survival equipment and limited supplies. Leaving behind the comforts of city life, these mining leaders will be put to the test, mentally and physically, putting their resilience, teamwork, and survival instincts on show.

Miner v Wild was created and organised by LiveMine in 2024, and the success of the fundraiser has inspired them to make the challenge an annual event.

“We’re very proud to grow the Miner v Wild challenge in 2025,” reflected Bud O’Shannessy, Managing Director of LiveMine. “It shows the mining industry cares and we step up when it counts, and backing young West Aussies who are battling mental health is something worth showing up for.”

Inspired by the community spirit within the mining sector, we are proud to be the beneficiaries of this event, which will generate significant support for young people across WA.

“Events like Miner V Wild are a powerful reminder of the strong community support that exists in improving the youth mental health crisis we are facing,” said Derry Simpson, Youth Focus CEO “As leaders, mentors and colleagues to many young people in their industry, their involvement sends a meaningful message.”

“The funds raised from this event make such a difference for young people, ensuring that when they put their hand up for support, we can be there for them.”

Donations raised from this year’s trek will go directly to helping young people through our Work and Study Support program. Mental health can be an enormous barrier to employment for young people, yet finding meaningful employment can be one of the most preventative factors in staying mentally well. This program provides young people with tailored, one-on-one, professional support to help them reach their work and study tools, giving them tools, resources and opportunities they need to do what they want to do.

The challenges leave on Thursday, 14 August to complete the trek. For more information about the challenge and participants, visit Miner v Wild today.
