Offering services where young people are
Young people face unique barriers to accessing mental health services, including time constraints, the need for parent or carer involvement, and limited travel options.
To reduce these barriers to accessing support, our Youth Counsellors have a presence at over 50 schools and community settings across WA, offering mental health services for young people.

Counselling in schools
We have Youth Counsellors present in over 50 schools across WA – in fact, more than half of the young people we support access counselling within their school setting.
Our Youth Counsellors work with students in their existing environment, alongside their support networks such as teachers and school staff, to help them navigate challenges and achieve their goals.
A young person can access in school Youth Counselling if:
- They attend a school where a Youth Counsellor is assigned.
- They are willing and ready to receive support.
- They are available at a time that works for the young person, the Youth Counsellor and the school, during school hours.
In school Youth Counselling is provided:
- Privately and confidentially
- With no referral required
- At no cost to the young person, their families/carers, or the school
- During normal school hours to ensure young people don’t need to take additional time during their day
Counselling in Community
Youth Focus also delivers services to young people (12 to 25) from a small number of community venues that prioritise the needs of young people.
