Supporting young people at risk of suicide across the Great Southern region
The Suicide Prevention Support (SuPS) program is a targeted service designed to support young people aged 12 to 25 who are at risk of suicide or self-harm, especially those who have presented to hospital following a suicide attempt or self-harming behaviour.
Delivered by Youth Focus and based at headspace Albany, SuPS offers short-term, mobile support to young people and their families across the Great Southern.
What is the SuPS program?
SuPS provides responsive, short-term support to young people during some of the most critical moments in their mental health journey. The program is staffed by experienced senior Allied Mental Health Professionals from Youth Focus and is designed to:
Support young people after a suicide attempt or self-harm incident
Provide immediate, in-person follow-up care
Work closely with families and caregivers to strengthen their ability to support the young person
Coordinate with GPs, schools, and local community mental health networks to ensure integrated care
Who can access this service?
SuPS is available to young people aged 12 to 25 living in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The service is especially focused on young people who have:
Presented to hospital due to suicide attempt or self-harm
Been identified as at risk of suicide
Required urgent follow-up support post-crisis
What support is offered?
The SuPS team offers:
Short-term, person-centred mental health support
Mobile outreach to communities and homes across the region
Guidance and coaching for families and caregivers
Connection to long-term services and supports
Coordination with GPs, schools, and local services
This support is provided free of charge, and no GP referral is needed to access it
When is SuPS available?
The SuPS service operates Monday to Friday during standard office hours, and is designed to respond quickly to hospital referrals and community requests for urgent support.
