M8D8 program for young men

Young men showing up for their mates' mental health

M8D8 is an initiative aimed at encouraging young men to support each other by talking, listening and sharing - before problems get too big to cope with.

What is M8D8?

Created and developed by young men in the Peel Region in recognition of the impact and high rates of suicide deaths in this age group, the M8D8 campaign aims to support young men in locations where support is limited, by building capacity in friendships to help start meaningful conversations about mental health.

It’s about making the time to catch up, to talk about what’s on their mind and what might be going on in their life at that time. For young people, mates mean everything and are the people you can have open and honest conversations with. That’s why the idea of mateship is so important.

M8D8 was created in collaboration with the young men in the Peel and South-West region, and continues to celebrate the ways in which young men live through tough times with each other. M8D8 is proudly supported by Alcoa.

How to get involved

The M8D8 campaign encourages young men in the Peel and South-West to catch up on and around May 8 and be there for a mate’s mental health.
