Mental health education

Educating the community

We work closely with schools and community groups to provide resources, support and education to help reduce the stigma around talking about mental health, and make it easier for young people to access mental health services when they need to.

We also offer mental health and well-being workshops designed to promote positive mental health in professional settings.

Through workshops, seminars, and community events and activities, we aim to create safe, supportive, and engaging spaces where young people feel heard, understood, and empowered to seek support when needed.

Mental Notes

We offer a mental health education program called ‘Mental Notes’ to schools, workplaces, and communities across Western Australia. These workshops aim to build awareness about youth mental health and suicide prevention.

What we discuss:

  • Why taking care of your mental health is so important, particularly for young people
  • Recognising the signs of good (and not so good) mental health
  • Feeling confident to help ourselves and others
  • Mental health supports that are available in our community

There are two Mental Notes programs available – one for students in years 6 to 12, and another for parents, carers and teachers.

  • Our Mental Notes program is designed to help young people understand and take charge of their mental health. We explore the mental health continuum, showing that mental health isn’t just about feeling “good” or “bad” but exists on a sliding scale that can change over time.

Students also learn practical ways to look after their wellbeing, including self-care strategies, stress management, and healthy coping skills. Just as important, we teach how to check in on others, giving students the confidence to support friends who might be struggling and start meaningful conversations about mental health.

By building awareness and resilience, Mental Notes empowers students to take care of themselves and their peers, creating a more connected and supportive school community.

These sessions are available for Years 6 to 12.

  • We understand that fostering a mentally healthy community requires a team effort, which is why our Mental Notes program follows a three-part approach – supporting students, teachers, and parents/carers alike. By equipping all three groups with the knowledge and skills to navigate youth mental health, we create a strong, supportive network that empowers young people to thrive.

Our Parent, Carer & Teacher Workshops provide participants with a shared language around mental health, ensuring consistency in the way we talk about and support wellbeing.

Some of the topics these workshops cover include:

    • What’s Happening in the Adolescent Brain – Understanding the rapid changes and challenges young people experience.
    • Navigating the Bridge of Adolescence – Practical strategies to support young people through the critical stage from childhood to adulthood.
    • Creating Communities for Thriving Young People – Building environments where young people feel safe, supported, and empowered.

By working together, we can create a community where young people feel understood, supported, and ready to reach their full potential.
