Connecting with young people in Bunbury

Community events are a great opportunity for our teams to connect with young people, and talk about mental health in a friendly and approachable environment.

Which is just what our Peel and South West Youth Focus team did recently when they joined other mental health professionals, youth service providers and entrepreneurs from the region in Bunbury for the Blue Leaf Initiative’s Youth Mental Health Forum.

Around sixty Year 10 – 12 students from schools in the Greater Bunbury region spent a day learning about the importance of self-care and wellbeing, hearing personal mental health stories from guest speakers, and exploring the power of self-belief and empowerment, before checking out the stalls and activities on offer.

At the Youth Focus stall, young people reflected on what they had learned at the event by writing on our Take 5 canvas. Not only was it a way for the young people to share their takeaways from the event, it was also a good reminder of the importance and effectiveness of Taking 5 to relax, reflect and connect.

Our team had a fantastic day, connecting with young people and community members, engaging with other service providers, and seeing the Take 5 canvas come to life. Thanks to Blue Leaf Initiative for inviting us, and to everyone who stopped by for a chat!
