On Saturday 2 November the Our Place Youth Committee hosted the Secret Garden Pride Prom where more than 120 young people gathered for a night celebrating unity and pride. This free event was a resounding success and guests took part in activities from lip-syncing and dance battles to making bracelets and even glitter face painting!
“I made so many new friends, and it gave me a chance to socialise in a safe place.” – a quote from one of the attendees but a sentiment shared by many young people at the event.
The Secret Garden Pride Prom is just one of the activities run through the Our Place program to create opportunities for young people to feel safe, hang out, have fun and connect with others from the LGBTQIA+ community. Our Place is supported by a committee of nine young people who work to facilitate the running of the drop in sessions, social media and resources and codesign events like the Secret Garden Pride Prom.
Alongside the Our Place Youth Committee Our Place is run in collaboration with Youth Focus, headspace Midland and the City of Swan and is proudly supported by the Richard Lockwood Foundation.
