Young people have a say

At Youth Focus, the input and feedback of young people guides and informs our work, and we truly believe that young people deserve to have a say in the issues that impact them.

This is why we are encouraging all young people, and those who care and support them, to have a say in the development of two significant documents that will shape how policies and initiatives for young people are implemented in WA.

The WA State Government is developing its new Youth Action Plan, and has published a Consultation Paper to encourage discussion and feedback around what is important to young people.

We’re partnering with the Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA), and other sector organisations, on a joint submission around how youth mental health should be addressed in the Plan.

If you’d also like to provide feedback, you can submit feedback via the online survey. The consultation period closes on 29 March 2004.

The Commissioner for Children and Young People in WA has recently released their new strategic plan, and identified four priority areas – youth justice, health and mental health, education and child protection. They’re calling for feedback from children, young people, their families, government and non-government service providers and agencies on a series of discussion papers to help advocate for the best outcomes for children and young people across WA. You can download the discussion papers here, and submissions are due by 31 March.

Many of the objectives of the Commissioner for Children and Young People align with the work we are doing at Youth Focus, and we’re looking forward to working with the Commissioner, and providing feedback on their discussion papers.
