Young people speak up at headspace Midland

The voices of young people were heard loud and clear at headspace Midland.

The centre held its second “Youth Panel Discussion”, at which young people were invited to speak on topics of importance to them and their community, while Youth Focus and headspace staff from around WA listened intently.

It was a fascinating afternoon, with Youth Reference Group members Archie, Cato, Kassandra, Katrina, Ted and TC speaking on subjects such as:

  • How can young men be better supported?
  • How can parents best support their young people?
  • Where are the gaps in services and supports for young people?
  • How can members of the CALD community be better supported?
  • Do young men still struggle to be vulnerable about their mental health?
  • What are the lingering effects of the post-COVID world on young people and their mental health?

The insights offered by the speakers were honest, candid and well-informed, backed by both research and personal experience. It was a privilege to be present and to hear the valuable youth perspective – we’re already looking forward to the next Youth Panel Discussion at headspace Midland!
