Cricket Australia (CA), in partnership with WA Cricket, has announced Youth Focus as charity partner for the NRMA Insurance Perth Test against West Indies starting November 30.
Local Australian cricket stars Ashton Agar and Cameron Green tested their spinning skills on exercise bikes in the middle of the world-class Perth Stadium with Youth Focus Ambassador Joel Weir and Young Rider Taskforce members James Trench and Sophie Pugsley in preparation for the Youth Focus Hawaiian Ride for Youth.
Teaming up with Youth Focus – a leading provider of youth mental health services in Western Australia, with a proud 28-year history – will help foster vital awareness in WA about youth mental health and build connections with the local community.
The partnership is a commitment which will support Youth Focus’ frontline services and education programs, which aim to prevent youth suicide and improve the mental health and wellbeing of young Western Australians aged between 12 and 25.
Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said;
“We are delighted to align with Youth Focus for the NRMA Insurance Perth Test this summer and support their important work with young Western Australians.
“Local and travelling cricket fans will have the opportunity to donate to Youth Focus when purchasing their tickets as well as at Perth Stadium over the course of the match.
“Entry to day five of the NRMA Insurance Perth Test will also be by donation with all proceeds going to Youth Focus.”
Youth Focus Board Director Christina Matthews said;
“Sadly, we all know someone who is dealing with the impacts of mental health and it is one of the biggest issues confronting elite athletes across a range of codes.
“Sport has got the power to connect and bring people together to raise awareness and it’s fantastic cricket can support Youth Focus’ important work in making real and valued improvements to the lives of young people in our State.”
Youth Focus CEO Arthur Papakotsias said;
“Youth Focus is the only specialist non-government youth mental health service in WA. We work through our Youth Focus and headspace centres to prevent youth suicide and improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people aged between 12 and 25.
“When you donate to Youth Focus, you’re not just backing a project, individual service or program.
“You’re helping young Western Australians to access support when they need, how they need it.
“You’re helping to ensure that young people experiencing mental health challenges have the support, tools and skills they need to thrive in their lives and be who they aspire to be.”
Fans will have the choice to access their tickets on a mobile device or can print out their tickets. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster with entry-level adult tickets starting at $30 plus a maximum $7.70 transaction fee.
