We’re seeking committed, dedicated young leaders to join us.
If you or someone you know is aged between 16 and 25, passionate about youth mental health and wanting to make a positive difference in the community, this is a great opportunity to get involved.
What’s it all about?
We’re looking for young people to join Burswood’s Youth Reference Group (YRG), to help support our work by sharing their voice, experience, and perspective as a young person.
Our YRG is a dedicated bunch of young people, with diverse backgrounds and experience. They meet once a month for about two hours. It’s an amazing way to make a difference in the community while making friends and building leadership skills.
What does our YRG do?
Young people on our YRG have the opportunity to be involved in a number of ways, including:
- Community engagement opportunities
- Helping to shape and inform our services
- Advocacy of youth mental health
- Community events and projects
- Collaborating with other local community organisations
- Support the development of policy, procedure and initiatives
At Youth Focus, we recognise and celebrate diverse voices and experiences. All young people aged 16 to 25 are welcome to apply, and we’d love to hear from those who identify in any of the below groups:
- Young people with lived experience of mental illness and/or who have previously accessed Youth Focus services
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people
- Young people from multicultural backgrounds
- Young people who identify as LGBTQIA+
- Young people with a disability
Youth Focus is committed to ensuring every individual that interacts with us feels safe and is able to bring their whole selves, being welcomed with equity, dignity and respect. In doing so, we understand that we must first include, listen, and reflect in order to build trust, connect, and partner. We celebrate individuality and are guided by the stories and journeys of the communities in which we live and work. Everyone is welcome at Youth Focus.
The YRG meets monthly on a Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30pm, in our Burswood office or online.
